| New director of the Belgian School at Athens Dear friends and colleagues, The EBSA is pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Athena Tsingarida has been elected as Director of the Belgian School at Athens by the General Assembly of the Belgian Centre of Archaeological Research in Greece. From the 1st of April 2022 onwards, she succeeds Prof. Dr. Jan Driessen who served 10 years as Director of the EBSA. We would like to thank Prof. Jan Driessen for his long and fruitful directorship. During his years at the head of the EBSA, Professor Driessen was fully committed to the School. He enhanced the presence of the School in Athens through the development of several collaborations with other Institutions and the Greek archaeological services, and increased the visibility of Belgian research in the fields of Mediterranean Archaeology and Ancient History. Athena Tsingarida is Professor of Ancient Greek Art and Archaeology at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). She holds BA and MA degrees in Classical Archaeology and Byzantine Studies from the Université libre de Bruxelles, ULB and a Doctorate (DPhil) from the University of Oxford (Wolfson College) where she studied as a Cecil Rhodes Scholar (Oxford). A specialist of Archaic and Classical Greece, she has published widely in the fields of ancient Greek pottery, social practices and cultural interactions throughout the Mediterranean world and reception of Classical Art in 19th-century Europe. She undertook excavations and field study in Syria (Apamea) and Greece (Sifnos and Crete) and is currently co-directing (with Didier Viviers) the excavations, restoration works and study seasons in Itanos (Eastern Crete). Prof. Athena Tsingarida received numerous research grants and fellowships for her work. She has been Senior Associate Member of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (2006-2007); T.B.L Webster Fellow at the Institute of Classical Studies, University College London (2014-2015). More recently, she was awarded a Visiting Research Fellowship at Merton College, University of Oxford (Hilary Term 2023), while she also currently chairs the Scientific Committee of the Royal Museums of Art and History (Cinquantenaire), Brussels. | Nέα διευθύντρια της Βελγικής Σχολής Αθηνών Αγαπητοί φίλοι και συνάδελφοι, Η EBSA είναι στην ευχάριστη θέση να σας ανακοινώσει ότι η Καθ. Δρ. Αθηνά Τσιγγαρίδα εξελέγη Διευθύντρια της Βελγικής Σχολής Αθηνών, με απόφαση της Γενικής Συνέλευσης του Βελγικού Κέντρου Αρχαιολογικών Ερευνών στην Ελλάδα. Από την 1η Απριλίου 2022 και εξής η Δρ. Τσιγγαρίδα διαδέχεται τον Kαθ. Δρ. Jan Driessen, ο οποίος διετέλεσε διευθυντής της EBSA για 10 χρόνια. Θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε τον καθηγητή Jan Driessen για τη μακρά και γόνιμη θητεία του. Κατά τη διάρκεια των ετών που ήταν επικεφαλής της EBSA, ο καθηγητής Driessen ήταν πλήρως αφοσιωμένος στη Σχολή. Ενίσχυσε την παρουσία της Σχολής στην Ελλάδα σε συνεργασία με τις ελληνικές αρχαιολογικές υπηρεσίες και με την ανάπτυξη αρκετών συνεργασιών με άλλα ερευνητικά ιδρύματα, αναδεικνύοντας με τον τρόπο αυτό τη βελγική έρευνα στους τομείς της Μεσογειακής Αρχαιολογίας και της Αρχαίας Ιστορίας. Η Αθηνά Τσιγγαρίδα είναι Καθηγήτρια Αρχαίας Ελληνικής Τέχνης και Αρχαιολογίας στο Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Είναι κάτοχος πτυχίου BA και MA στην Κλασική Αρχαιολογία και τις Βυζαντινές Σπουδές από το Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) και διδακτορικό (DPhil) από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης (Wolfson College) όπου σπούδασε ως υπότροφος Cecil Rhodes (Οξφόρδη). Με εξειδίκευση στην Αρχαϊκή και Κλασική Ελλάδα, έχει δημοσιεύσει ευρέως στους τομείς της αρχαίας ελληνικής κεραμικής, των κοινωνικών πρακτικών και των πολιτιστικών αλληλεπιδράσεων σε όλο τον μεσογειακό κόσμο καθώς σχετικά με την πρόσληψη της Κλασικής Τέχνης στην Ευρώπη του 19ου αιώνα. Ανέλαβε ανασκαφές και επιτόπια μελέτη στη Συρία (Apamea) και την Ελλάδα (Σίφνος και Κρήτη) και αυτή τη στιγμή διευθύνει (από κοινού με τον Didier Viviers) τις ανασκαφές, τις εργασίες αποκατάστασης και την μελέτη του υλικού στην Ίτανο (Ανατολική Κρήτη). Η καθ. Αθηνά Τσιγγαρίδα έχει λάβει πολυάριθμες ερευνητικές υποτροφίες για το έργο της. Υπήρξε Senior Associate Member της Αμερικανικής Σχολής στην Αθήνα (2006-2007), T.B.L Webster Fellow στο Ινστιτούτο Κλασικών Σπουδών, University College του Λονδίνου (2014-2015), ενώ πρόσφατα, της απονεμήθηκε η υποτροφία Visiting Research Fellowship στο Merton College του Πανεπιστημίου της Οξφόρδης (Hilary Term 2023). Ταυτόχρονα, προεδρεύει της Επιστημονικής Επιτροπής των Βασιλικών Μουσείων Τέχνης και Ιστορίας (Cinquantenaire), Βρυξέλλες. Την καλωσορίζουμε θερμά και της ευχόμαστε κάθε επιτυχία στη διεύθυνση της EBSA. |
